'Wife conspires with lover to kill husband in Mysore'
MYSORE: A wife and her lover have been arrested for conspiring to kill her husband in Mysore recently.
Metagalli police said Bhavya of Mandya district and her lover Raghavendra have been arrested on charges of killing Bhavya's husband Nagappa Kattimani previous week. The incident came to light a day after Nagappa was cremated.
Inspector H R Vivekananda told TOI that Bhavya and Raghavendra conspired to eliminate Nagappa, a mason, as he was bothering Bhavya after he came to know their alleged love affair. As per plan, Raghavendra took Nagappa to a liquor shop and consumed liquor heavily at Nagappa's native Shyadnalli on August 15. Later, he took him near Varuna canal and pushed him inside around 10.30pm.
Bhavya who was aware of this remained silent and on the next day, August 16, she made a hue and cry that her husband Nagappa who went for nature call on the morning has been missing. Later, she pretended that her husband may have fallen into the canal. Following the incident, a bunch of villagers launched a search for his body voluntarily and later found his body a kilometre away from the spot on August 18. The same day he was cremated without alerting cops.
But a day after cremation, a section of villagers' suspected foul play and then Bhavya spilled the beans that she had conspired in killing her husband. Later, Nagappa's brother Chenappa Kattimani lodged a police complaint.
Bhavya and Raghavendra who were arrested on Tuesday have been remanded to police custody. Nagappa leaves behind a son and daughter aged 3years and 6 years respectively.
This is second such incident in Mysore wherein wife had conspired with lover to kill husband over their love affair in the last two years. Similarly, Rekha conspired with her lover Umesh to kill her lecturer-husband Ravi in August 2011.

RS approves bill to make divorce friendly for women
The Bill allows both parties to file for divorce on the ground of "irretrievable breakdown" of marriage.
Rajya Sabha on Monday approved a proposal to make divorce friendly for
women as it provides for the wife getting share in the husband’s
immovable property after “irretrievable breakdown” of marriage.
The Marriage Laws (Amendment) Bill seeks to empower the courts to decide
the compensation amount from the husband’s inherited and inheritable
property for the wife and children once the marriage legally ends.
The Bill allows both parties to file for divorce on the ground of
“irretrievable breakdown” of marriage. Both parties have to live apart
for at least three years before filing for such a petition.
Provisions have been made to restrict grant of a decree of divorce on
ground of “irretrievable breakdown” of marriage if the court is
satisfied that adequate provision for maintenance of children has not
been made consistently with financial capacity of the parties to the
marriage.
Also, the wife has the right to oppose the grant of a divorce on the
ground that the dissolution could result in grave financial hardship.
Replying to a debate on the bill, Law Minister Kapil Sibal said it is “a
historic peace of legislation” in a patriarchal society like India
where women, who constitute 50 per cent of the population, own only two
per cent of the assets.
He said the divorce is “gender neutral” as either the wife or the
husband can seek divorce. However, the right over property will not be
gender neutral as wife can lay claim on husband’s immovable property.
The Bill also provides that a court can take an ex parte decision on
granting divorce if one of the two parties refuse to move a joint
application.
As per the existing laws, the parties have to move a motion jointly
between 6 and 18 months in case of divorce on grounds of mutual consent.
However, it has been observed that in several cases one of the parties
do not turn up for filing of motion jointly with the other party leading
the party desirous of divorce hapless and remediless.
The amendment has been done to mitigate such hardships, said the statement of objects and reasons of the Bill.
During discussions, several MPs across party lines suggested the Bill be
made gender neutral and should not be confined to Hindu marriages only.
The Bill seeks to amend Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
Mr. Sibal, however, noted that the legislation is in context of Hindu
Marriage Act and the Special Marriage Act, a couple has a choice to get
registered under the Special Marriage Act.
He said it would be the courts that would decided about the division of property post divorce.
“We have to trust our judges...Judges...will decide what (amount of) property will given to women,” he said.
The Minister, however, said there was no amendment which works against women and works in favour of men.
He said the Members of Parliament should show that they are on side of women in a patriarchal society.
Earlier, Najma A. Heptulla (BJP) said divorce is considered a taboo in
India and efforts should be made to ensure that family structure remains
intact.
She accused the government of not doing anything for the 10 crore women
belonging to Muslim community. She promised BJP’s support to any
legislation for betterment of Muslim women.
She also said there should be only one law for all women in the country.
As per the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, Hindu Marriage
Act and the Special Marriage Act have proved to be inadequate to deal
with the issue where there has been irretrievable breakdown of marriage
and therefore the need was felt for the amendments.
Supreme Court too had pointed out the necessity to introduce
irretrievable breakdown of marriage and mutual consent as grounds for
grant of divorce in all cases.
“Having regards to the recommendations of the Law Commission of India
and the observation of the Hon’ble Supreme Court...it is proposed to
amend the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and the Special Marriage Act, 1954,
so as to provide for irretrievable breakdown of marriage as a ground of
divorce thereunder subject to certain safeguards to the wife and
affected children,” the statement said.
The Law Minister said husbands too can move courts for irretrievable breakdown of marriage.
Ram Prakash (Cong), Narendra Kumar Kashyap (BSP), Jharna Das Baidya
(CPI-M), Derek O’ Brien (TMC), Arvind Kumar Singh (SP), Renubala Pradhan
(BJD), Vandana Chavan (NCP), Bharatkumar Raut (SS) and Gyan Prakash
Pilania (BJP) also participated in the discussion.
Men's right group protests against 'discriminatory' proposed marriage law
A men's rights group on Sunday took out a rally protesting against the proposed Marriage Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2002, alleging it would breakdown the traditional family system by introducing no-fault and was heavily loaded against the husband.
"Similar laws in the west have led to breakdown of the traditional . In the US, while only 20 per cent of couples who married in 1950 ended up divorced, about 50 per cent of couples who married in 1970 did so after the no-fault divorce came into being," said Hriday spokesperson Anil Gupta.
He said as per the proposed legislation, which has received the nod from the cabinet, a can walk out of the marriage on her sweet will.

Replying to the brief debate, Law Minister Kapil Sibal said there was need to protect women's rights as the society was still patriarchal.
"So let's be clear. Legislations are a message that MPs are on the side of women in a patriarchal society. With this intent we bring this bill," he said.
Speaking on the amendments, Sibal said the share of wife in husband's self-acquired property will be decided by court. He said the wife also has a share in the movable property of her husband.
He said the wife does not have share in inherited property but its value will be taken into account while fixing the amount of alimony to her.
He said either husband or wife can cite irretrievable breakdown of marriage as a ground of divorce.
There have been concerns that provisions of earlier marriage acts were inadequate in cases of irretrievable breakdown of marriage.

पुरुषहो, तुमच्यासाठी...

पुरुष म्हणजे कुटुंबाची भिंत... त्याच्याशिवाय चांगल्या समाजाची कल्पनाच करवत नाही. असा हा पुरुष आज अडचणीत आहे. काही मोजक्या पुरुषांच्या एखाद्या कृत्याचे खापर अख्ख्या पुरुषजातीवर फोडले जाते. खरेतर, त्याच्यावरच अनेकदा अन्याय होतो. खोट्या गुन्ह्यांमध्ये तोच टार्गेट होतो. त्याचे ना कुणी ऐकत ना त्याच्या मदतीला जात. पुरुषांच्या याच अंतरंगाचा वेध घेण्यासाठी पहिल्यांदाच सेव्ह इंडियन फॅमिली फाउंडेशनतर्फे (सिफ) नागपूर विभागात पुरुष परिषद घेण्यात आली. पुरुषांच्या विविध समस्यांचा उहापोह येथे झाला. फाउंडेशनतर्फे पेंच येथे हे ५ वे पुरुष हक्क राष्ट्रीय अधिवेशन झाले. संपूर्ण भारतामधून ४० हजार कार्यकर्त्यांचे प्रतिनिधित्व करणारे शेकडो मेन्स राइट्स कार्यकर्ते या अधिवेशनासाठी जमले होते.
...तर स्वातंत्र्यदिन मानणार नाही
सरकारकडून पुरुषाला हीन वागणूक मिळते. त्याच्या भावना कधीच जाणून घेतल्या जात नाहीत. केवळ महिलांच्याच वाट्याला सहानुभूती येते. सरकार, न्यायालय केवळ महिलांचीच बाजू ऐकते. पुरुषाला तर बोलण्याचा अधिकारच नाही. चहूबाजूंनी पुरुषांची मुस्कटदाबी होते. अनेकदा महिलांकडून त्यांच्या बाजूने असलेल्या कायद्यांचा गैरवापर केला जातो. केवळ वचपा म्हणून तर कधी काही स्वार्थ साधण्यासाठी पुरुषांवर खोटे गुन्हे दाखल करण्यात येतात. मग पुरुष स्वतंत्र कसा, असा सवाल अधिवेशनात उपस्थित करण्यात आला. सरकारने पुरुषांच्या बाजूने विचार न केल्यास स्वातंत्र्यदिन साजरा का करायचा, असा सवालही उपस्थित करण्यात आला.
संशोधनाची गरज
सध्या पुरुषांसाठी भारतामध्ये पुरुष हक्क, पुरुषांच्या मानसिक व शारीरिक समस्या या विषयावर कुठेही कसलाही संशोधन किंवा शैक्षणिक आभ्यासक्रम अस्तित्वात नाही. असशा संशोधन किंवा शैक्षणिक अभ्यासक्रमाची नितांत गरज असल्याचे मत ' सिफ ' ने अधिवेशनात मांडले. अशा अभ्यासक्रमामुळे पुरुषत्वाची जाणीव लोकांपर्यंत पोहाचेल ज्यामुळे समाजात पुरुषांला चांगले जीवन जगता येईल, व चांगला समाज घडेल, असे मत व्यक्त करण्यात आले.
हाच खरा भेदाभेद
समाजातील गुन्हे आणि समस्यांसाठी केवळ पुरुषांनाच जबाबदार व गृहित धरण्यात येते. अनेक घटनांत तर महिलांनी पुरुषांपेक्षा कितीतरी गंभीर गुन्हे केले आहेत. ते कधीच प्रकाशात येत नाहीत. इथे मग ' समानता ' कुठे गेली? जर समाज पुरुषाला मानसन्मान देऊ शकत नसेल, तर त्या समाजाने पुरुषांकडून कुठलीच अपेक्षा करून नये. त्याला शिक्षा करण्याचा किंवा त्याला दोष देण्याचाही अधिकार नाही, असे स्पष्ट मत ' सिफ ' चे मध्य भारत अध्यक्ष राजेश वखारिया व अन्य मान्यवरांनी व्यक्त केले. अधिवेशनादरम्यान ३० सत्रांत पुरुषांच्या विविध समस्यांवर विचारमंथन झाले.
असे हे ठराव
- पुरुषाला शांततामय जीवन जगण्याचा अधिकार आहे.
- पुरुषाला कायदेशीर रूपात निःपक्ष व समान अधिकार मिळावेत, जे लिंगभेदरहित असावेत.
- प्रोस्टेट कॅन्सर, पार्किन्सन्स, हृदयविकार आदी आजारांपासून त्यांना रोखण्याकरिता पुरेशी आर्थिक गुंतवणूक करण्याची गरज आहे.
- पुरुषांबद्दलचे पूर्वग्रह दूर व्हावेत. त्यासाठी पुरुष कल्याण मंत्रालयाची स्थापना करण्यात यावी.
- फादर्स राइट्सचे रक्षण करून शेअर पॅरेंटिंगला मान्यता देण्यात यावी.
- संसदेसमोर येऊ घातलेला हिंदू विवाह संशोधन कायदा संमत न करता खारिज करावा.

43-year-old man arrested for blackmailing wife over dowry demands
A businessman was held here for blackmailing his wife and demanding from her family after threatening to release her nude photographs on the internet, police said Tuesday.
Accused Gagandeep, 43, a resident of DLF Phase-1, was arrested on Monday night for shooting nude photographs of his wife, 40, and threatening to upload the pictures on the , police said.
"We are investigating the case," Surender Phogat, chief of DLF Phase-1 police station, told IANS.
The two got married more than a decade ago and have two children, police said.
The businessman was Tuesday presented in a court which sent him to one day police custody for questioning.

“I will fight against misuse of 498A”, affirms Prince Tuli in Nagpur; To sue ‘Zanjeer’ producers for using bike sans permission
It’s been a while since the ugly face of marriage between Prince Tuli
and his estranged wife formerly crowned Miss India Yukta Mookhey came
out in the open. The allegations and counter charges framed by Yukta
against her beleaguered husband followed by severe jolts received on the
part of the latter and his family only worsened the situation. However
all the allegations came from Yukta while Tuli chose to keep mum as the
case progressed in the court of law. Even Tuli categorically denied
giving any interview which quoted him as citing adultery behind the
broken marriage. The interview was carried across media.
Nagpur Today got to interact with Prince Tuli to hear his side of story. In an exclusive chat with Nagpur Today, Prince Tuli opened up his heart regarding various unwanted and disappointing events taking place in his life! Prince also spoke at length about his Superbike, Kawasaki Ninja ZX 14 Limited Edition which has been featured in first song titled ‘Mumbai Ke Heroes’ from the film Zanjeer, without his permission.

Nagpur Today : Is it true that you dint give any interview regarding the allegations of Yukta on you to Mumbai mirror?
Prince Tuli : Yes! I definitely haven’t quoted anything in this context to any media till date. When I’m not allowed to do so by law, why would I do so and see myself behind bars? Plus I would never disrespect the mother of my child, and clean my dirty laundry in public.
Nagpur Today : Were the statements mentioned in that interview true?
Prince Tuli : I never quoted such statements. I am a stake holder at the Adai Mehra Production Pvt Ltd. I gave an interview regarding the remake of the movie ‘Zanjeer’ remake, and nothing related to what is published.
Nagpur Today : How is your family doing?
Prince Tuli : We are going through tough time. All my family has to come and report at Mumbai. My mother is a cancer patient. She is such an adorable and straight person who doesn’t at all deserve such a harsh treatment. Yet she has to travel twice a week to Mumbai and report at the police. The policemen harass her by asking uncomfortable and upsetting questions. Such harassment of an old lady is just inhumane.
Nagpur Today : What shall be your future course of action in this context?
Prince Tuli : Around fifty to sixty thousand people commit suicide every year just because of these fake, fictitious allegations and misuse of the 498 A law. It’s high time that this victimization of families and the stupid gender bias should be stopped. I’ll fight not just for myself, but every victim of the misuse of this law till I breathe my last.
Nagpur Today : Yukta has openly come forward, even in front of media and put allegations on you. Why have you not come up with your side of explanations and proved your point straight in public?
Prince Tuli : We are ‘Khaandani’. We shall never entertain or put forth anything undue and despicable for that matter. Whosoever needs cheap publicity can definitely grab it, we would never let our standards fall! We have never talked abrupt; in future as well we shall remain composed in spite of the cheap compellations.
Nagpur Today: It is learnt that your bike has been featured in the title track of Zanjeer the promos of which are out now. But you have some issues with the producers?
Prince Tuli : The co-producers of this film are Reliance Entertainment and Amit Mehra’s Flying Turtle Films. I shall even sue the producers, Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., if entire song is not omitted from the flick, because the bike has been used without my permission.

The bike is extremely dear to me and i have an emotional connect with it. I had bought this bike in the year 2008 and had specially imported this bike from New York which at that time costed approximately Rs.35 lacs. I was shocked when I discovered the presence of bike in the song of movie directed by Lakhia and was extremely hurt that the bike which was taken on a friendly ride, without my consent was used for commercial purpose in the film. I have asked to immediately remove every scene featuring my bike failing which legal action would be initiated.

Nagpur Today got to interact with Prince Tuli to hear his side of story. In an exclusive chat with Nagpur Today, Prince Tuli opened up his heart regarding various unwanted and disappointing events taking place in his life! Prince also spoke at length about his Superbike, Kawasaki Ninja ZX 14 Limited Edition which has been featured in first song titled ‘Mumbai Ke Heroes’ from the film Zanjeer, without his permission.

Nagpur Today : Is it true that you dint give any interview regarding the allegations of Yukta on you to Mumbai mirror?
Prince Tuli : Yes! I definitely haven’t quoted anything in this context to any media till date. When I’m not allowed to do so by law, why would I do so and see myself behind bars? Plus I would never disrespect the mother of my child, and clean my dirty laundry in public.
Nagpur Today : Were the statements mentioned in that interview true?
Prince Tuli : I never quoted such statements. I am a stake holder at the Adai Mehra Production Pvt Ltd. I gave an interview regarding the remake of the movie ‘Zanjeer’ remake, and nothing related to what is published.
Nagpur Today : How is your family doing?
Prince Tuli : We are going through tough time. All my family has to come and report at Mumbai. My mother is a cancer patient. She is such an adorable and straight person who doesn’t at all deserve such a harsh treatment. Yet she has to travel twice a week to Mumbai and report at the police. The policemen harass her by asking uncomfortable and upsetting questions. Such harassment of an old lady is just inhumane.
Nagpur Today : What shall be your future course of action in this context?
Prince Tuli : Around fifty to sixty thousand people commit suicide every year just because of these fake, fictitious allegations and misuse of the 498 A law. It’s high time that this victimization of families and the stupid gender bias should be stopped. I’ll fight not just for myself, but every victim of the misuse of this law till I breathe my last.
Nagpur Today : Yukta has openly come forward, even in front of media and put allegations on you. Why have you not come up with your side of explanations and proved your point straight in public?
Prince Tuli : We are ‘Khaandani’. We shall never entertain or put forth anything undue and despicable for that matter. Whosoever needs cheap publicity can definitely grab it, we would never let our standards fall! We have never talked abrupt; in future as well we shall remain composed in spite of the cheap compellations.
Nagpur Today: It is learnt that your bike has been featured in the title track of Zanjeer the promos of which are out now. But you have some issues with the producers?
Prince Tuli : The co-producers of this film are Reliance Entertainment and Amit Mehra’s Flying Turtle Films. I shall even sue the producers, Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., if entire song is not omitted from the flick, because the bike has been used without my permission.
