HAZARIBAG: A mother of three lodged a complaint on Tuesday at the Pelawal police station against her neighbour alleging that he had raped her. However, police said the woman was bringing false accusations against the man and termed it consensual sex.

The woman in her FIR said the accused, Umesh Kumar Mehta, entered her house forcibly on the pretext of drinking water and raped her. Mehta dared to commit the crime in absence of the woman's husband Dwarka Sao, who was out of town. Mehta even locked up the children in a room.

However, DSP (headquarters) Arvind Kumar Singh after interrogating the woman found Mehta was known to the woman and it was consensual sex.

Singh also said the woman was crying rape because her husband came back home suddenly and saw the two in a compromising position.

Youth held: A youth was arrested in Ranchi's Sukhdeo Nagar locality when he attempted to rape a 5-year-old girl on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, a driver was playing with the girl in the basement of an apartment in Sukhdeo Nagar when he took her to the bathroom where he tried to rape her. The parents of the girl caught the boy when the girl started crying. "The people caught the boy and brought him to the police station," said circle inspector Hari Chandra Singh. PATNA: A man, arrested in a dowry case, allegedly died in police custody at Salimpur on Thursday morning.
Salimpur SHO said, "Deceased - Gajendra Prasad Mishra was arrested on Wednesday night in a dowry case lodged by one Dinesh Jha, the father-in-law of Mishra's youngest son Ravi Mishra. On Thursday morning, he started vomiting. We immediately took him to Bahadurpur hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. We are investigating the reason of his death."

According to the police, Ravi Mishra was married to Manita, Dinesh's daughter, who on April 2 this year committed suicide after consuming poison. Dinesh lodged an FIR against Gajendra, Ravi and his mother Shubhkala Mishra for dowry death.
Deceased brother Vijay Mishra said that Dinesh had struck a deal of Rs 3 lakh with his brother to take back the case. "My brother went to meet Dinesh on Wednesday and gave Rs 2.5 lakh with condition of paying rest of the amount only after the withdrawal of the case. Dinesh took the money and offered him a soft drink. Later when my brother left the place, Dinesh called up the police and get him arrested. He was brought to Salimpur police station on Wednesday night," Vijay said.
Vijay further said Dinesh must have poisoned the soft drink that he offered to his brother.

Matka king murder case: Six including wife, son convicted

MUMBAI: A sessions court on Friday convicted six accused in the murder case of matka-king Suresh Bhagat, including his wife and son.


According to prosecution, the motive behind the murder was that Bhagat's wife Jaya and son Hitesh wanted to usurp his property and take over his multi-crore gambling business.

Bhagat, along with five others, was killed, in pursuance to a conspiracy, on Alibaug-Pen road on June 13, 2008, when a truck collided with his Scorpio.

Later, police found that the accident had been orchestrated by his wife and others, for taking over the matka business, and they had hired Suhas Roge to do the job.

The Mumbai crime branch had arrested eight persons - Suhas Roge, Harish Mandvekar, Kiran Amle, Shaikh Azimuddin, Pravin Shetty, Jaya Bhagat, Hitesh Bhagat and Kiran Pujari - in connection with the case and booked them under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

However, in April 2009, the special MCOCA court dropped the stringent Act after the defence lawyers argued that there were no previous cases against their client - which is an important ingredient for applying MCOCA in the case.

Later, Kiran Pujari and Shaikh Azimuddin sought to become approvers in the case and the court directed a magistrate to record their confessions.

Pujari, in his confession, said that he had met Jaya at her residence and Roge had suggested eliminating Bhagat. He said that Jaya had allegedly said that Bhagat was going to destroy the matka business, and to this, Roge suggested that a more "permanent" arrangement should be made.

Chief public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan told the court that this was a cold blooded murder and examined 80 witnesses to prove the case.

However, what bolstered the prosecution case was the statement of confession by Pujari and Sheikh.
